●Yaizu

　The name "YAIZU" is believed to have it's origin from the legends of "YAMATO TAKERUNO
　MIKOTO"described in "KOJIKI" the oldest history of successive emperors.

●Yakumo Koizumi (Prof.Lafcadio Hearn)

　"Yakumo Koizumi "especially loved sea and people in Yaizu, and visited the summer of every year in
the holidays. The work includes "Otokichi Dharma" and "Yaizu nite", etc. from 1898 to 1905,"Yakumo
Koizumi " visited Yaizu 6 time for a long stay.He loved the town in Yaizu and the fishermen "Otokichi
Yamaguchi "very much.

●YAIZU HATCHO-RO(8-oars fishing boat)

　As for oars fishing boat in Edo period, the number to 7- oars was limited. The purpose of this law is
to differentiate the ship for military forces of the shogunate. The Shogun "TOKUGAWA IEYASU" gave
the instruction of guard to the fishermen one day. However, the fishermen appealed not to be able to
guard with 7- oars. And, the permission of 8- oars fishing boat was applied for. Because this work had
succeeded, "TOKUGAWA IEYASU" permitted 8- oars fishing boat only to the fishing boat of Yaizu.
8- oars fishing boat became only Yaizu for 260 years in the whole country until the Meiji era since then.

●Yaizu fish center

　Yaizu Fishing port is an important fishing base for distantwater fishing vessels.The annual landings of
tuna and skipjack are incomparable in Japan."Yaizu fish center "is adjacent to Tomei-Yaizu-IC. There
are 72 stores in the center, and the fresh fish, the fishery finished goods, and the dried fish, etc. are
sold.

●Discovery park Yaizu
　There are a planetarium system, an exhibition pavilion, and 80cm equator ceremony reflecting
telescope astronomical observatory in "Discovery park Yaizu". And, the plaza and the heated
swimming pool where the science can be experienced while playing are in order.
